This qualification offers foundational training for aspiring Plant Operators in the construction industry, available even without current employment. It focuses on developing practical skills and knowledge, assessed through standards derived from National Occupational Standards. It’s ideal for those aiming to advance into further training or direct employment.

Key Components:

​

  • Mandatory Unit: Site safety and roles and responsibilities for plant operators.

  • Supports progression into Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Construction Civil Engineering - Plant Operations, alongside other qualifications like the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Plant Operations and the Level 1 Award in Employee Rights and Responsibilities.

 

This structured approach ensures a comprehensive skill set, preparing learners for various operational roles within the construction sector.

 


This qualification comprises units (19 credits required) from the following optional groups

Option Group One (Excavator 180 -Below 5 Tonnes):
-Know how to operate an excavator 180 – below 5 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 180 – below 5 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 180 – below 5 tonnes, to carry out excavation and loading duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Two (Excavator 180 -Above 5 Tonnes):
-Know how to operate an excavator 180 – above 5 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 180 – above 5 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 180 – above 5 tonnes, to carry out excavation duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Three (Rough Terrain Forklift):
-Know how to operate a rough terrain forklift
-Operate a rough terrain forklift
-Prepare and use a rough terrain forklift to carry out stacking/de-stacking duties and lifting, and transferring loads and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Four (Telescopic Handler)
-Know how to operate a telescopic handler
-Operate a telescopic handler
-Prepare and use a telescopic handler to carry out stacking/de-stacking duties and lifting, and transferring loads and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Five (Wheeled Loading Shovel)
-Know how to operate a wheeled loading shovel
-Operate a wheeled loading shovel
-Prepare and use a wheeled loading shovel to carry out loading, extracting and forming duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Six (Skid Steer Loader)
-Know how to operate a skid steer loader

Option Group Seven (Agricultural Tractor)
-Know how to operate an agricultural tractor

-Prepare and use an agricultural tractor with towed and mounted implements to carry out associated tasks (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Eight (Excavator 360 -Below 10 Tonnes)
-Know how to operate an excavator 360° – below 10 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 360° – below 10 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 360° – below 10 tonnes, to carry out excavating, loading, reinstatement duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment)

Option Group Nine (Excavator 360 -Above 10 Tonnes)
-Know how to operate an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes
-Operate an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes
-Prepare and use an excavator 360° above 10 tonnes to carry out excavating and loading duties and associated operations (Practical Synoptic Assignment).
