Who Should Attend:  

This course is tailored for individuals who are exposed to workplace vibrations that can lead to irreversible health effects. It's also ideal for those requiring a refresher on relevant regulations. The training is suitable for operatives, supervisors, and management personnel.

 

Delivery:

The course can be customised to align with the client’s needs. Training sessions can be conducted on-site using the client's training facilities or at a convenient location.

 

Course Format:

The Hand-Arm Vibration Awareness Training is available in both classroom and remote formats, incorporating demonstrations and practical group exercises.

Duration:

3 -4 Hours (max 15 delegates face to face, 12 remote)

Course Objectives

 

The primary objective of this course is to equip participants with a thorough understanding of the hazards and risks linked to the use of vibrating equipment in the workplace. Additionally, the course aims to ensure participants comprehend their responsibilities under the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations.

 

Purpose and Scope

 

This standard is designed to offer foundational awareness in recognizing, managing, and mitigating the effects of hand-arm vibration.

 

Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), also referred to as vibration white finger (VWF) and dead finger, is a secondary manifestation of Raynaud’s syndrome. This industrial injury is induced by prolonged use of vibrating hand-held machinery.

 

The course covers the following areas:

 

  • Causes of HAVS

  • Hazards associated with HAVS

  • Symptoms of HAVS

  • Short and long-term effects of HAVS

  • Maximum daily exposure levels related to HAVS

  • Prevention and reduction strategies for HAVS

  • Monitoring and surveillance methods for HAVS

  • Responsibilities of both workers and managers concerning HAVS

  • Relevant legislation, codes of practice, and standards pertaining to HAVS, emphasising safety

The candidate will be able to:

If a candidate has been paid grant for a particular course in a lifetime, they will not be eligible for grant again for the same course, unless it has specific refresher standards published on the short duration course register.

If refresher course standards do exist for a particular course, then only one refresher is grant eligible in a lifetime for each candidate.
